    Skipjack Tuna

Species: Katsuwonus pelamis (Linnaeus, 1758). Perciformes - Scombridae - Skipjack Tuna

Local Name: Turingan, Pundahan, Oceanic bonito, ipjack,Skipjack tuna, Tambacol
    Size:
Runs in schools of similar-size fish, usually 2~6 pounds,

but can exceed 15 pounds and sometimes approaches 50.
    Tackle and Baits:
Large schools are often encountered at the surface and provide fine targets for all sorts of casting outfit, including fly rods. Trollers also have great sport with light classes of trolling tackle and small features, spoons and trolling lures.
    World Record:
    45 pounds, 4ounces
    Habitat:
    The deep sea.
    Description:
Four to six horizontal stripes on lower half of the body distingush it from others of its clan. The back is dark purplish blue, lower sides and belly silvery.
    Lure and bait :
For casting, bucktail jigs, metallic jigs and spoons often work, but many have to be scaled closely to the size of the bait on which the fish are feeding. Bucktail flies with flashy Mylar or similar material can also produce. The same lures plus feathers, artificial squids and small offshore trolling lures are devices for trolling.
    Game Qualities:
    A terrific light-tackle battler.
