May 2, 2009, 8:50pm Chinese businessman William Ang finally scored his first major win by topping the recent Standard Insurance heavy tackle tournament of the Philippine Game Fishing Federation (PGFF) at the Don Andres Fishing Camp in Sta. Ana, Cagayan Province. An old-time PGFF member, Ang caught 80.6 kgs of assorted fish during the two-day tournament -- the second of the year – to beat Robhert Tan for the title. Tan hooked a total of 76.5 kgs while PAL pilot Leo Yosalina gripped 67.8 kgs to finish third in the 65-angler field supported by Standard Insurance president Judes Echauz. Businessman Emilio Choa caught the largest sailfish – 37.5 kgs. – while Stewart Tiongson hooked the largest Dorado – 16.4 kgs. – during the rainy competition. Meanwhile, PGFF president Bong Nery announced that the 9th Philippine International Billfish tournament will be held from May 23 to 26 also at the Don Andres Fishing Camp. It will coincide with the staging of the 52nd Triple-V National Sportsfishing tournament.
