Largemouth Bass

Species: Micropterus salmoides  (Lacepède, 1802) [Perciformes - Centrarchidae - Largemouth Bass]
Local Name: Bigmouth bass.

SIZE: Commonly reach lengths up to 16 inches by three years of age
WORLD RECORD:
Habitat: :Prefers clear lakes.
Diet:Feeds on fish, insects, crayfish, frogs, and tadpoles
GAME QUALITIES: Much of its popularity is due to its aggressive attitude and willingness to strike a lure or bait with explosive force. They will strike almost any kind of artificial lure or live bait, but most are taken on plastic worms, surface plugs, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, bass bugs and shiner minnows.
The value of the largemouth as a sport fish has prompted a movement toward catch-and-release fishing.
Identification:Body green-shaded with a broad, continuous dark stripe along each side; belly white to yellowish; dorsal fin almost completely separated between spiny and soft portion and lower jaw extends past the gold-colored eye
